Food, Fitness, and Faith on Friday

Really what I should say is:  FAITH…then food…then fitness…:)

I recently was listening and reading about how our food, our nutrition, is 80% of what we see in the mirror and our fitness is only 20%.  What does that mean?  It means  we truly are what we eat!  If a person has aesthetic goals than spinning their wheels on the treadmill for hours and hours at a time each day is not going to accomplish the physical look and goal they are trying to obtain.  A person MUST evaluate how they eat, why they eat, and what they eat.

The 20% of fitness truly can be just 3-4 hours a week or even less when a person focuses on strength as their primary goal rather than aesthetics.  Then, the looks just fall into place if that is a person’s goal.  A routine as simple as walking for 20-30 minutes each day, lifting weights 2-3 times a week for 20-30 minutes, and one sprint or metcon kind of workout a week is truly all that is needed.  This is basically what I do.  My walking may be outside or on my mini trampoline but it is nothing that makes me huff and puff to get my cortisol dumping bad hormones into my body and creating havoc on my insulin and thus adrenals….etc.

BUT I challenge us to look at our food and fitness outside of the box.

What if we put FAITH FIRST. Revolve our every day, our every thought, every action, and our every craving on our FAITH?

What if we gave our FAITH 100%?

Wouldn’t the food of 80% and fitness of 20% become easier?  Less of a chore? More balanced? A better perspective?

I remember once hearing how a marriage isn’t a 50/50 relationship.  That each spouse MUST give 100%  in order to truly experience the beauty and blessings of a marriage.

Thus, I challenge that our relationship with our FAITH, FOOD, AND FITNESS is the the same, in that we must give GOD 100% in order for us to understand and balance the 80% Food and 20% Fitness!

This doesn’t mean we don’t work on what needs to be done to be healthy.  Instead it gives us a better focus on why to be healthy.

A focus on living a longer and healthier life to go out and do amazing works for HIM!!!

Now that is better than any visual in the mirror in my book!

***But….you also won’t be disappointed with what you see in the mirror when GOD/FAITH is the first 100%…..TRUST ME ON THIS!!! 🙂

Blessings and hugs,

Sprints…Strength…Strong on Saturday

I mentioned sprints and strength a while back; I wanted to share more about that!

I have been re-enjoying the great joy of sprinting! It is so freeing and takes so little time.  You get super winded.  And you build amazing strength.  Finally it takes so little time to get an even more effective workout without all the cortisol overload and depleted ick.
As, I had decided to heal my body from over use of running longer distances I knew I needed to find balance.
I’ve always loved sprint work.   The more I listened and read about sprinting, I was reminded of the valuable science of this amazing exercise.   And how it is very possible to do even less in a work out yet stay lean and strong.  Actually depending on a person’s goal, get even leaner and stronger.
Think about it for a moment!   When we watch the Olympics.  In the running competitions. Who looks strong and healthy and who looks depleted and like a skeleton between the sprinters and the long distance runners?
When I truly think about it and reflect upon it, again going back to yesterday, I would much rather look and feel like the life of the party.   Not a bag of bones just waiting for my number to be up!   Ok. That might be extreme.  But sometimes we need extreme analogies to get our point across even for ourselves!

Do I still love going for a run from time to time?  Yes.  But I am much more aware now of how it can create havoc not only on my body but in my mind.  And truly I know it is one of my “unhealthy” choices.  I know and understand the science that sustained cardio truly is not healthy for us.

Stay strong…stay healthy….and remember balance!

Balance in mind, body and soul.

Balance in our pursuit of knowing how everything is entwined.

Our Faith, Food, and Fitness, create a beautiful reminder of loving our Lord, loving our life, loving to laugh, and loving to live!

As always….blessings to you all!
Have a glorious day!

Paleo: Protein, Power, Peace

I have been wanting to post about some of my favorite sites I go to to continually learn and grow through this amazing lifestyle I have embarked upon for over 3 years now.

It started out as a spiritual journey….that has turned into the most amazing life changing experience for my mind, my body and my soul!

But with this posting I promise to not get drawn out….I will just give all of you my favorite spots I go to for resources: recipes, Q&A, support, etc.  And I will give a summary of why I go to that particular site!

I have two main sites I go to:

***I am going to finally mention one I haven’t really had the chance to delve into the site as much as I would like to yet….but I really enjoyed hearing her interview on Paleo Hacks podcast….Primal Kitchen.

And it was with that podcast and interview that I learned about Eat to Perform.

I don’t know much about those last two yet….but I look forward to reading and learning more!

Finally MOVEMENT…..my favorite spot to just watch/read/hear about quick ways to keep my body mobile and intune with how it is suppose to function and work is:  Aligned and Well.  Katy gives great sound science on how our bodies need to be respected.

SUMMING IT UP….

If I absolutely had to choose….

It would go back to the beginning of this post….BALANCED BITES and EVERYDAY PALEO.

And if you still pushed me…

I guess EVERYDAY PALEO would win because it is geared around family….they are both parents they understand the ins and outs of parenthood.

BUT….BALANCED BITES reminds me to be real…and it gives me a feeling of Gilmore Girls…lol….

So….

Those are my top spots for now….

I am continually learning….thus….

The list is continually growing…

I will add as I come across more or as I think of ones I may have forgotten!

Until then….

Many blessings to all of you…

Have a blessed week full of “P” POWER! :)….

BALANCE

Facebook…twitter…Pinterest…Google+…all social media….email…computer searching…blogs…electronics….etc….

It is all about BALANCE!

If there is anything I have learned (again…lol…you would think I could figure some of life’s lessons out by now) it is about balance.

I have really enjoyed knowing that FB isn’t an option…it is freeing.  Yet, I have missed being able to just touch bases with a few of my friends during the week. I know this is their mode of conversation and I don’t want to miss out on saying hello.

I also find myself thinking about a recipe I want to share on my Food~Fitness~Faith private group.  Or I read a great article about daughters and want to share it with the Dynamic Daughters private group.

And an interesting thing I realized even though I was being much more productive with house work in the morning without going to FB and not burning up my reading time or lesson planning in the evening….I was transferring some of the time to trying to figure out Google+ for my blog.  I was using email even more.

Balance…that is what any and all of it is about.
NO different than treats, alcohol…exercise…sleep….work…play….etc.

We can’t feast on cake all day.  Just like we can’t drink every night (or shouldn’t).  We can’t work 20 hours a day and think we won’t suffer from it.

BALANCE!

Thus what I can take from my FB experiment is this:

1.  I will make sure house hold stuff is completed and checked off in the morning before I hop on to FB or any media or search or even writing for my blog or Examiner and before I wake up my daughter.

2.  I will not do any of it during learning and household hours.

3.  I will make sure if I am taking a break from a task that I time myself and respect the timer when it goes off.

4.  I will ensure my media time is productive…making connections…loving….not just random reading….and scrolling for lost minutes on end!

Balance with boundaries…self-control…and discipline…that is what life is truly all about!

I love how life constantly gives us opportunities to always grow and learn!

Blessings and hugs to all!
